Dear AT&T, thank you for getting me into Shape.

Dear Shape AT&T, You have forged some kind of magical energy and heart-pounding go-getting drive through my veins. The real question is…how come I have never heard of you? Shape is the AT&T Tech and Entertainment Expo. This year, I had the fortune of joining the Meetup group “Let’s Make Movies LA” right in time for them to give out free tickets to this amazing event held at the Warner Brothers Studios in Los Angeles, CA. Big shout out to JB for hooking us up. I was like a little kid in the candy store. Wide-eyed with a goofy smile, I got to check out all the cool sets and back lots of the most iconic movies and TV shows like the Big Bang Theory and Pretty Little Liars. And even scored “Gunther’s” role on the set of the iconic comedy show “Friends”. Check out my amazing coffee pouring skills:   It was a scorching day so listening to speeches in an air-conditioned theater was a no-brainer. But let me tell you, even if I …

Farmers Market Stand (DIY)

My sister Maya, had the brilliant idea of a farmers market themed party for her daughters’ birthday so I built a farmers market stand for them. This was the first time we used PVC pipes and now I wonder why I shouldn’t create everything with PVC pipes. Anyway, so happy with the outcome because it was such a joy to see the kids going grocery shopping. So darn cute, makes me so deliriously happy inside. Happy birthday Eva and Harper, Auntie Mindy loves you! These are the following materials you will need: 1. 6 PVC pipes, corner sockets to hold them in place (bought ours at Home Depot) 2. table to put the stand on 3. foam board and wrapping to make the awning (DollarTree) 4. velcro to keep the awning in place (DollarTree) 5. black cardboard paper for the sign (DollarTree) 6. tape or glue (DollarTree) 7. fake vines if you want to wrap the poles (DollarTree) 8. wooden crates (ours are big supermarket crates, but you can probably find people selling them in …

DIY: Mini Top Hat

When you have high noon tea at a chic, elegant little restaurant, of course it’s a must to wear cute little hats.  It was my first time going to afternoon tea so I wanted to make it fun and memorable.   What’s more memorable than walking into the dainty restaurant, all dressed up and with these adorable hats?  My girlfriends and I had so much fun.  We will definitely do this again. Here is my YouTube video on how to make these mini hats:

Photo Session: Indian Engagement

Dear friends, it’s been almost 2 years since my last wedding gig.   And I’ve recently had a relapse.  You see, I’ve always wanted to photograph an Indian wedding.   Mainly because of all the colors beaming from the outfits, the jewelry…the traditions.   All of which screams my photography signature style – bright, bold, contrasting colors.   So as you can guess, I just couldn’t pass up the luck of taking photos for my friend’s Indian engagement party.    This was not on my “to do” list so I’ll just “air-cross” it off. After 2 years of not doing any photography gigs…it was like riding a bike (not that I know how to ride a bike but that’s the saying).   It was like I never stopped.  It felt natural…ordering people around…lol   They just don’t know because I do it with a huge smile and lots of laughter.   And my heavy dslr felt safe and comfortable around my neck.   But this was the first time, I took pictures in a saree (traditional Indian dress the bride lend me)…yes…I did.  This is me …

Behind the Stage: Putting on a Wig

Transforming into a skid row urchin in the 60s era for Little Shop of Horrors was so much fun.   Here is a video on how I put on my wig for the show.   And a little treat at the end where I pay homage to my favorite superhero, Wonder Woman!   My little corner oasis in the girls dressing room.   These are essentials!!! 1.  My boy shorts because when wearing a skirt on stage and running dance numbers, giving the audience a peep show is absolutely NOT part of the plan. 2. For singing throats:  LOTS OF WATER, preferably with raw honey.   And when your throat gets tired and sore after a couple of shows?  Who would of thunk!?  Ginger candy…works wonders. 3.  Face towel because I tend to sweat like Whitney Houston on a big night. I’ve actually have become somewhat of the ultimate professional in the fake cut-crease eye makeup area.   Let me know if you would like to see how I created my own fake cut-crease eyelid. I learned so much…and some the hard …

My Little Shop of Horrors Audition

I HAVE BIG NEWS! I was going to post this in a couple of weeks but I literally have no time to focus on my Youtube channel so this is actually the perfect way to do both. Last month, I took a leap of faith and auditioned for a musical. If you have been following my blog, it’s #4 on my to do list before I turn 40. And also, my last Youtube video was actually a hint. Please check out my YouTube video to see how my auditions went. 🙂

DIY: Sharpie Mugs (Little Shop of Horrors style)

I’ve been in a nostalgic mood lately.   I was very much the thespian in high school being involved in 2 musicals and a couple of plays.   The one I will never forget is Little Shop of Horrors.   It’s not because I was the lead in the musical but because it’s just a fun, funny and quirky musical…like me! So, as I was in the process of re-organizing my home office desk and needed a fun way to manage all my crafty items and such, I decided to pay homage to my dear musical.  And thus the turning these plain white ceramic mugs into holders to hold, well, whatever I want… Check out the DIY youtube video for this article: There are many other DIYs out there for sharpie mugs.  Most of which are used to drink out of.   Thus you will need to put it in the oven for 30 mins.  For this art project, we are just using as holders so no need…unless you can’t live without baking them, then go right ahead. Here’s what you’ll need at …

Why Not Now with Min-D!

There are many “scary” numbers like 666 or 4.  My scary number is 39.  Yes, 39 gives me a lot of anxiety.  39 is the end of your 30s!  For me, it’s the last year to squeeze every ounce of immaturity out before the start of the dreaded 40s.  When you turned 30, did you feel old?  I sure didn’t.  All the way up to 38, I was like, “I can still HANG with the 20-year-olds”.  But now, I can’t help but notice white hair, dimples and brown spots spreading through nukes and cracks of my body like chicken pox.  And where did all my pumped up, hyper sensitive adrenaline run off to? Nowadays, it’s a win just to go hiking once a month. Ahhhhh…the dirty signs of growing old.  I turned 39 a couple of months ago…I’m totally scared. I’ve always lived my life willing to put myself out there and experience new things. So shouldn’t I know my true passion by now? I am a 39 year old wife, with no kids, a …

DIY: White Wall of Things to To

Do closet mirrors scare you?   Well, join the club.  Other than giving a small room a larger illusion, it’s kind of scary.   Imagine this:  It’s late at night, you are alone in your office just typing away.   Then you lean back for a stretch and at the side peripheral you see hands!  Your head immediately turn that direction and there you are in the mirror looking back at you in a frantic gaze. So, since I need to make my top 10 things to do this year.  And more than not if I wrote it in a notebook or in an email, I’d most like will not look at it like I constantly look at it now.   In my biased opinion, this is brilliant.  But I only covered one slider so that I will still have that “large room” effect from the other mirror. Want to try it?  It’s super simple and takes like 15 minutes.   The hard part is drawing out what you want to put on your wall.   Let’s start with the easy …
